History
We
are the only synagogue in the Fox Valley with a monthly Tot
Shabbat Friday night service to involve families with younger
children in Shabbat services.
Hazzan
Sarah Alexander has produced a beta version of English transliterations
of the Shabbat services from Sim Shalom at Shirat
Shalom to encourage participation in davening.
We are a diverse community, united in our desire to worship
God as Jews, to learn from our rich heritage and from each
other, to celebrate with and support our members through joyous
and sad times. While not formally affiliated with an official
movement, we are a liberal Conservative congregation with
appropriate traditional elements to serve the needs of our
congregational family.
Founded
in August 2004 to provide a viable continuation of Jewish
life in the Greater Elgin area committed firmly to integrity,
SHIRAT SHALOM ("Song of Peace") places an emphasis
on the needs of members and the community as a whole. Conveniently
located off I-90 between Rt. 59 and Beverly Road on picturesque
property, SHIRAT SHALOM offers weekly Shabbat morning, monthly
Shabbat evening and all Festival services.
Currently
providing religious education on Sundays, we look forward
to our educational programming growing along with our membership.
With a sound foundation upon joyous, meaningful, authentic
worship, SHIRAT SHALOM cogently secured the services of a
professional hazzan (cantor) to be its spiritual leader. With
successful experience teaching and in the pulpit, Hazzan
Sarah Alexander is more than capable of addressing the spiritual
and pastoral needs of our synagogue.
Shirat Shalom is fortunate that Hazzan Sarah Alexander is
an enthusiastic, devoted Conservative hazzan and a perfect
fit to take the leadership position and to grow our congregation
by offering Tot Shabbat services in addition to new education
and programming opportunities.
Our President, Mr. Stuart Hanfling possesses proven leadership
in both the business and synagogue leadership realms. His
respect for Jewish tradition and compassion for his fellow
Jews have been vital to the inaugural accomplishments of SHIRAT
SHALOM.
